Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and business-focused Data Visualization Consultant to turn complex datasets into intuitive, visually compelling dashboards and executive-level reporting experiences. This role is responsible for designing high-impact visual data products that help business leaders understand performance, identify trends, monitor KPIs, and make more confident decisions.
The ideal candidate has strong experience with Tableau, Power BI, or similar business intelligence platforms and combines technical dashboard capability with strong visual judgment and business storytelling skills. This person should be able to simplify complex information, improve reporting usability, modernize outdated dashboards, and create reporting experiences that are clear, decision-ready, and aligned with stakeholder expectations.
This is a remote USA-based role, suited for someone who can work across analytics, BI, leadership, and business teams to produce dashboards that are both analytically strong and visually effective.
Key Responsibilities
Dashboard Design & Visual Reporting
- Design clear, high-impact dashboards and visual data products for business, operational, and executive audiences
- Build intuitive reporting experiences that present metrics, trends, comparisons, and performance insights in an accessible format
- Create dashboards that balance usability, clarity, visual hierarchy, and analytical depth
- Ensure reporting outputs are visually professional, easy to navigate, and aligned with business decision-making needs
- Develop dashboards for leadership, department heads, operational teams, and executive stakeholders
Data Storytelling & KPI Communication
- Translate business metrics, KPIs, and performance data into effective visual storytelling
- Present complex datasets in ways that highlight what matters most and help users quickly understand performance drivers
- Structure dashboard layouts to guide attention, reinforce insight, and improve readability for business audiences
- Support executive reporting through concise and visually effective communication of trends, risks, and opportunities
- Help stakeholders move from raw data to actionable interpretation through thoughtful presentation design
Dashboard Usability & Adoption Improvement
- Improve dashboard usability, adoption, and executive readability by reducing clutter, simplifying navigation, and strengthening interaction design
- Review how users interact with dashboards and recommend improvements that increase clarity and practical usefulness
- Make reporting easier to consume by improving layout, structure, filters, labels, and information flow
- Help ensure dashboards are business-friendly and do not overwhelm users with unnecessary complexity
- Contribute to more effective use of reporting tools through better visual experience and stakeholder alignment
Collaboration Across Analytics & Business Teams
- Work closely with BI, analytics, product, finance, operations, and business teams to understand reporting needs and decision-making requirements
- Translate stakeholder requests into structured dashboard solutions with practical business value
- Collaborate with data analysts, engineers, and report owners to ensure data is accurately represented and meaningfully visualized
- Support alignment between technical reporting structures and the needs of leadership and business users
- Communicate design rationale and reporting recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
Reporting Standards & Best Practices
- Define visualization standards, dashboard principles, and reporting best practices across the reporting environment
- Help establish standards for layout consistency, chart selection, KPI presentation, labeling, color logic, filter design, and information hierarchy
- Promote reporting approaches that improve trust, usability, and consistency across dashboards and visual outputs
- Contribute to BI governance by supporting structured, maintainable, and scalable dashboard design practices
- Help create a more professional and standardized reporting environment across the organization
Dashboard Review & Modernization
- Review and modernize existing dashboards to improve usability, performance, visual clarity, and executive relevance
- Identify outdated, cluttered, or poorly structured reporting outputs and redesign them into more effective visual products
- Improve legacy dashboards by simplifying layout, refining visuals, clarifying metrics, and strengthening business readability
- Recommend improvements to reporting structures, interactions, and presentation logic based on user needs and reporting maturity
- Support continuous improvement of the dashboard portfolio through thoughtful redesign and reporting optimization
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, Information Systems, Design, Statistics, Business, or a related field preferred
- Proven experience in data visualization, business intelligence, dashboard design, or analytics consulting
- Strong experience with Tableau, Power BI, or equivalent BI and dashboarding tools
- Strong sense of layout, hierarchy, visual structure, and data storytelling
- Ability to simplify complex information for business and executive audiences
- Strong understanding of dashboard UX, KPI communication, and reporting usability
- Experience designing dashboards that support operational, strategic, or executive decision-making
- Strong communication and stakeholder collaboration skills
- High attention to detail and strong visual judgment
- Ability to work effectively in a remote and cross-functional environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in consulting, analytics, business intelligence, or executive reporting
- Experience creating board-level, leadership-ready, or investor-ready dashboards
- Familiarity with design systems, reporting governance, and dashboard standardization practices
- Experience reviewing and modernizing legacy dashboards or fragmented reporting environments
- Understanding of chart selection, data presentation logic, metric framing, and dashboard performance considerations
- Exposure to data modeling concepts, reporting pipelines, and collaboration with data engineering or analytics teams
- Familiarity with tools such as Figma, Excel, SQL, Looker Studio, Qlik, or similar reporting and design support tools
- Experience in enterprise reporting, transformation environments, or stakeholder-heavy reporting settings is a plus
