Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and stakeholder-focused Sustainability / ESG Reporting Consultant to support ESG data collection, sustainability reporting structures, disclosure preparation, and reporting governance across the organization. This role is responsible for helping businesses improve the quality, structure, and maturity of their environmental, social, and governance reporting by building practical reporting processes, aligning data with recognized frameworks, and preparing stakeholder-ready narratives and disclosures.
The ideal candidate has experience in ESG, sustainability reporting, compliance, or advisory environments and is comfortable working across operations, finance, HR, legal, risk, and leadership teams to gather information and shape meaningful reporting outputs. This person should be able to support framework alignment, improve reporting discipline, and help the organization communicate sustainability performance clearly to investors, clients, partners, and internal stakeholders.
This is a remote USA-based role, suited for someone with strong documentation, reporting, and cross-functional coordination skills who can help strengthen reporting credibility, governance, and stakeholder confidence.
Key Responsibilities
ESG Reporting Structure & Framework Development
- Build and improve sustainability reporting structures to support consistent, accurate, and scalable ESG disclosures
- Help design reporting processes, calendars, templates, ownership models, and governance routines for recurring ESG reporting cycles
- Align reporting outputs with relevant sustainability and disclosure frameworks based on organizational needs
- Support the development of clear reporting architectures that connect metrics, narratives, controls, and review processes
- Contribute to stronger reporting maturity through better structure, process discipline, and accountability
ESG Data Collection & Metrics Support
- Support ESG data collection across environmental, social, governance, operational, and stakeholder-related reporting areas
- Work with internal teams to identify data sources, owners, reporting gaps, and collection methods for ESG metrics
- Help organize, validate, and consolidate ESG data for reporting purposes
- Support development of metric definitions, data collection templates, and reporting logic to improve consistency and comparability
- Assist in improving the quality, traceability, and reliability of sustainability data used in disclosures
Reporting Narratives & Disclosure Preparation
- Prepare reporting narratives, summaries, and framework-aligned content for sustainability reports, investor materials, client disclosures, or internal governance packs
- Translate ESG data and program activity into clear, professional, stakeholder-ready reporting language
- Support drafting of disclosures related to sustainability priorities, governance approaches, performance trends, initiatives, and reporting methodology
- Help ensure narratives are aligned with available evidence, internal review expectations, and external stakeholder needs
- Contribute to the preparation of polished and credible reporting outputs for formal and informal use
Stakeholder & Client Alignment
- Help align ESG reporting outputs with investor, client, customer, board, or regulatory expectations
- Support stakeholder-facing reporting requirements by organizing content in a way that is clear, relevant, and decision-useful
- Work with leadership and cross-functional teams to understand reporting priorities and external expectations
- Assist in responding to sustainability-related information requests, reporting questionnaires, or disclosure support needs
- Improve confidence in the organization’s sustainability reporting through stronger structure and communication quality
Governance, Controls & Reporting Maturity
- Improve reporting maturity by recommending better governance, review processes, documentation standards, and ownership controls
- Support reporting workflows that improve consistency across data collection, validation, review, sign-off, and publication
- Help maintain reporting documentation, process maps, data logs, assumptions, and methodology notes
- Identify reporting gaps, inconsistencies, or control weaknesses and recommend practical improvements
- Contribute to stronger internal governance for ESG reporting and sustainability communications
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Advisory Support
- Work across sustainability, finance, HR, legal, operations, procurement, compliance, and leadership teams to gather data and coordinate reporting inputs
- Support project-based or recurring reporting efforts linked to ESG strategy, disclosures, customer requirements, or investor requests
- Help translate reporting framework requirements into practical internal processes and documentation needs
- Partner with stakeholders to improve understanding of ESG reporting expectations and responsibilities
- Contribute to broader sustainability, compliance, and reporting improvement initiatives where needed
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Studies, Business, Finance, Public Policy, Communications, Risk, or a related field preferred
- Proven experience in ESG reporting, sustainability consulting, disclosure support, compliance reporting, or stakeholder reporting
- Strong documentation and stakeholder reporting skills
- Understanding of sustainability reporting frameworks, disclosure practices, and reporting expectations
- Experience supporting ESG metrics, data collection, reporting preparation, or governance-related reporting processes
- Ability to work with cross-functional stakeholders to gather, structure, and present reporting information clearly
- Strong written communication and analytical skills
- High attention to detail and comfort working with structured reporting content
- Ability to improve reporting processes and maturity through practical recommendations
- Ability to work effectively in a remote and collaborative environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with major ESG and sustainability reporting frameworks such as GRI, SASB, TCFD, ISSB, CDP, CSRD, or similar standards
- Experience supporting investor-facing, board-facing, or client-facing sustainability disclosures
- Exposure to ESG data management, controls, audit readiness, reporting assurance, or materiality support
- Understanding of environmental metrics, workforce metrics, governance indicators, and sustainability program reporting
- Experience in consulting, compliance, corporate sustainability, investor relations, or risk reporting environments
- Familiarity with spreadsheet-based reporting models, reporting templates, dashboards, and document control practices
- Experience helping organizations improve reporting governance, narrative quality, or disclosure readiness
- Relevant ESG, sustainability, or reporting certification is a plus
